First Flows in New Delgany Interceptor Section

Metro Water Recovery made history this year as we completed replacing 2,300 feet of the some of the oldest pipe in our Transmission System.

Located at the National Western Center site, this section of the Delgany Interceptor system was moved underground and began sending flows to the Robert W. Hite Treatment Facility in May. This project is significant for three reasons, according to Mark Hofmeister, Metro Project Manager:

  • Demolished old, corroded and deteriorating pipe, including brick and mortar from the early 1900s.
  • Uses new HOBAS® pipe, a non-corrosive fiberglass-reinforced polymer mortar, designed to last 100 years.
  • Enables the National Western Center partners to “build the campus now that the underground infrastructure is in place.”

Moving this pipe section underground will enable residents and visitors of the Center to access the South Platte River.
